My research career has been focused on medical physics. The starting point of my scientific career was the prosecution of a master thesis in MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) at the university hospital of the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität (JGU) Mainz, Germany. The study was focussed on the optimisation of the pulse sequences used in MRI scanners for the use of fluorinated gases as a contrast in MRI lung images. After my master thesis I came back to Spain to start my PhD. As a PhD student at the Institute for Corpuscular Physics (IFIC), joint center of University of Valencia (UV) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), I contributed to the study of the impact of the characteristics of the LSO and LYSO continuous scintillation crystals used in PET (Positron Emission Tomography) on the measured resolutions. After that, I completed a post-doctoral position within the Electronic Engineering Group at the I3M Institute at the UPV. The main goal while I was working at UPV was the modelisation of the output signals of a PET module in order to provide relevant input information for the design, fabrication and characterisation of a dedicated readout ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) for PET scanners. Concurrently I was working on a novel idea in the area of Energy Harvesting of more efficient thermoelectric generator design. In 2015 I joined the Particle Physics group to work as a post-doctorate at the School of Physics of the University of Bristol (UK), to work in the upgrade of the LCHb detector (CERN) as a member of the TORCH (Time of Flight Identification with Cherenkov Radiation) experiment, funded by an European Research Council Advanced Grant (code ERC-2011-ADG proposal 299175). Since 2016 until August 2019 I was working as a post-doctoral researcher with a Severo Ochoa Excellence Grant. I was working in the medical physics group IRIS at IFIMED (Medical Physics Installation) which belongs to the Instituto de Física Corpuscular (IFIC - joint centre between CSIC and UV). I have been working in Positron Emission Tomography and Hadrontheraphy. In September 2019 I was awarded funding for a three year project in a competitive call (Subvenciones a la excelencia científica de juniors investigadores (SEJI)) by the Generalitat Valenciana. As a result I am the principal investigator of the project "Implementation and demonstration of the functionality of a new probe for the improvement of the spatial resolution in Positron Emission Tomography" which I am carrying out in parallel with my work within the IRIS group.
