Juana Maria Delgado-Saborit completed her PhD degree at the University Jaume I (Spain). Subsequently, she moved to the University of Birmingham (UK) to work as a Research Fellow progressing later to Lecturer. She was awarded a Marie Sklodowska Curie Fellowship and moved to the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) prior to receiving the Distinguished Researcher GenT Fellowship. She has also conducted research stages at prestigious centres, such as Harvard School of Public Health, Imperial College London, King's College London, University College London, Utrecht University and Joint Research Centre.

She is an expert in exposure assessment studies, in chemical speciation for source identification and in using biomarkers to assess environmental exposures and effects to oxidative stress and inflammation.

Her current research applies epidemiological methodologies and geographical information system techniques to assess the effects of air pollution, noise, greenness and artificial light at night on cognitive performance and development and behavioural problems in children. She applies exposure models based on dispersion, land use regression and machine learning, combined with biomarkers of exposure and effect to estimate exposures in large-scale populations.

Juana Maria Delgado-Saborit is collaborating with the Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollutants (UK) and Public Health England to evaluate the epidemiological evidence linking exposure to air pollution and cognitive decline and dementia. She has also acted as an advisor for the World Health Organisation to derive their current Indoor Air Quality Guidelines and is the author of two chapters in those guidelines (benzene and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons).

She holds honorary scientific appointments at King's College London, the University of Birmingham and ISGlobal.

She has received several prestigious Investigator Awards: the 2010 Cefic LRI Innovative Science Award; the 2011 Walter A. Rosenblith New Investigator Award; a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship (2017) and a Distinguished Researcher GenT Fellowship (2019).
