I obtained my PhD degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at University of Alicante in 2011 under the supervision of Juan José Palacios and Joaquín Fernández Rossier. My thesis was based on the study of spin transport phenomena in carbon-based systems, such as Graphene and Carbon Nanotubes, combining DFT and the Landauer transport approach. The same year, I joined the group of Stephan Roche at the Ctalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology where I was in charge of leading a research project on topological insulators (TI) (Bi2Se3, Bi2Te3, Sv2Te3,...) and Graphene/TI heterostructures. This allowed us to understand the role of proximity effects on the spin lifetime in Graphene deposited on substrates with strong spin-orbit coupling.
In 2017, I moved to Braga (Portugal) to work in the group of Joaquín Fernández Rossier as an MSCA-COFUND fellow. There I had the possibility to study the electronic properties of the recently discovered 2D magnets (chromium trihalides). A year later, I obtained an MSCA-IF fellowship to work in the group of Mikhail Katsnelson at Radboud University (Nijmegen), where I collaborated with other researchers in understanding the role of strong correlations in chromium trihalides.
Now, I am working a Research Associate in the group of Gianluca Fiori at University of Pisa, where we are trying to develop novel devices based on magnetic van der Waals heterostructures allowing to exploit the functionality of 2D magnets.
