I have a bachelor's degree in neuroscience from Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Subsequently, I was the first PhD student in the NIH Joint Predoctoral Program in Neuroscience at University College London (UCL). Under the guidance of Neil Burgess at UCL, I used virtual space navigation paradigms to test how novelty processing findings and hippocampal oscillations in rodents extend to humans.

Upon completing my PhD in 2013, I received a Sir Henry Wellcome postdoctoral fellowship from the Wellcome Trust. In collaboration with Karl Friston at UCL and Gustavo Deco at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, ​​I developed my research program using behavioral, computational, and neuroimaging approaches to study whether learning mechanisms with cognitive maps are a widespread phenomenon in the brain beyond spatial cognition.

From 2018 to 2020, I was an Associate Professor at the Kavli Institute of Systems Neuroscience, where I started the Decision and Memory Group. I was also a visiting lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Princeton University from 2020 to 2021. In the fall of 2021, I joined the Department of Psychobiology, Basic and Clinical Psychology at Jaume I University in Castellón de la Plana.
